England have not included Toby Flood in their Six Nations squad which gets underway next month.
According to the bet365 website, the fly-half is set to leave Leicester at the end of the season for a transfer to France, something head coach Stuart Lancaster has taken into consideration when naming his players.
Once he does complete a move elsewhere in Europe, Flood will become ineligible because England have a policy of only selecting players which participate domestically on home soil, as do a lot of other national rugby union teams.
His decision to play to France could signal the end of his international career. He has earned 60 caps so far. He made his debut for the national side in 2006 against Argentina and has been a regular ever since then.
Bath’s George Ford will take Flood’s place in the squad as he bids for his first cap with England. The 20-year old has featured for the Saxons and also competed at national level at under 20 and under 18 level.
Lancaster’s side will kick their campaign off against France on February 1. It will be a tough start for the 2011 winners as they visit the Stade de France in Paris.
A week later, they take part in the Calcutta Cup clash away to Scotland. England have held the trophy since 2009 after four consecutive wins against their oldest rivals. The latest bet365 odds show strong support for the side in 2013. Their first home game in this year’s competition is at home to Ireland on February 22 at Twickenham.
The four-time Six Nations winners will also be at home in early March when they host Wales, while their final game of the campaign is away to Italy in Rome in the last round of fixtures.
