General Info Edit
Last year was just as special as the previous one for Dan Cole, who made his Test debut off the bench after an hour for David Wilson in the victory over Wales at Twickenham in the opening match of the 2010 RBS 6 Nations Championship. A greater triumph followed in the 21-20 defeat of Australia at Sydney last June when he resolutely completed a formidable performance despite suffering a cut and badly swollen left eye.

He had made his first Test start against Italy last February before celebrating his third cap against Ireland by becoming the first England prop to score a Test try in 42 matches since Phil Vickery did so off the bench against South Africa at Twickenham in November 2006.

Leicester-born Dan had begun all four England Saxons’ matches in 2009, including three in the Barclays Churchill Cup, and played 20 games for Leicester Tigers in the season that ended in May last year. He reached 50 senior appearances for the club against London Irish last December.

He even fitted in a loan spell with Nottingham, then a National One club, making his starting debut against Cornish Pirates at Meadow Lane. His initial Tigers’ game, his only one in 2007-08, had been in the 20-14 defeat by Bath Rugby in the EDF Energy Cup at the Recreation Ground.

Dan spent two productive seasons on loan to Bedford Blues, now also a Championship club, and headed to Goldington Road along with fellow Tigers Academy players Ollie Dodge, Tom Youngs and Ben Pienaar to gain invaluable experience and continue his development. He made 16 starts for the Blues in competitive matches in 2006-07 and 11 in the following season.

During his time at Leicester, he has enhanced his reputation as a formidable tight-head prop in the seasoned and cosmopolitan company of England’s Julian White, Martin Castrogiovanni of Italy and the since departed Alex Moreno of Argentina.

Dan also acknowledges the assistance of former England players Dusty Hare, Neil Back, Richard Cockerill, Graham Rowntree and Nigel Redman.

A former pupil at Kibworth High School, Robert Smyth and Wyggeston & Queen Elizabeth I College, he was originally a flanker with South Leicester RFC and has enjoyed consistent rugby success.

It began with his part in England Under 18s winning the Association European Rugby (AER) festival in Lille and he went on to play in every game in the Under 19 Six Nations and IRB World Championship in 2006, in which he helped the side to a third place finish.

The following year, he was a member of the England Under 20s’ squad in the Six Nations Championship, a forerunner to his Test breakthrough that brought 11 consecutive caps before the start of the 2011 RBS 6 Nations Championship.
