Having suffered a 33-6 defeat at the hands of France in their last outing, the rugby betting odds might think Australia are not going to be the same force they have been on previous tours of the northern hemisphere.
However, England head coach, Stuart Lancaster, is not one of those people, and he is taking nothing for granted ahead of the Cook Cup clash this weekend, and nor should he.
Australia will always raise their game to take on England in whatever sport you care to choose and Saturday’s clash at Twickenham will be no different.
The Wallabies have suffered a blow ahead of the game with the news from Will Greenwood that David Pocock has suffered a calf strain, as the team’s injury woes continue.
Head coach, Robbie Deans, has had more injuries to deal with than any other boss on the international circuit, and a full-strength Australia side would be a very different prospect for the English.
But this this is still a massive Test match for England in terms of their development and Lancaster will be desperate for his side to come through this next challenge, before they take on the very different prospects of South Africa and New Zealand in their following Autumn International Series games.
The national head coach believes that his side should be fully aware of a potential backlash from the injured Wallabies after that heavy defeat to the French in Paris.
Lancaster said: "There is bound to be a reaction. We recognise the challenge that is coming our way. They are a side with character and resilience. We need to make sure we are ready."
