Wales hooker Richard Hibbard has challenged his team to send out a major message to their rivals by comfortably beating Italy in Saturday’s Six Nations opener.
Warren Gatland’s men go into the tournament as the defending champions following their magnificent 31-3 win over England on the final day of last year’s tournament and having claimed the Grand Slam in 2012, another overall win would see them become the first team to win the title three-times in a row since the Azzurri joined in 2000.
In the past France have traditionally dominated the tournament that comes immediately after the British & Irish Lions tour but Wales are the favourites with many fans who watch live rugby online and Hibbard has urged his side to show exactly how good they are by beating Italy at the Millennium Stadium.
“We want to go out, do our best and really get our show on the road and let everyone stand back and think 'Wales are here'," the hooker said. "We could become one of the greatest teams of all, and I think it is do-able. With the squad we have got here, it is definitely possible.
“The boys are really excited by the challenge. But it is like anybody who is on top, everyone is coming after you, aren't they? So, we have got to be especially focussed and make sure we win every game.”
Despite Wales’ fearsome reputation, the fixture list is in some way against them, with trips to both London and Dublin on the agenda, however they did win at both Twickenham and the Aviva Stadium in triumphant 2012 campaign.
Their opening clash against one of the weaker teams in the competition should provide them with a comfortable win and, despite the Italians' impressive pack, Bet365's latest rugby tips online suggest that Hibbard and co should easily defeat Jacques Brunel’s men.
