Tuitupou Eyes Further Improvement 10 views 0 Comments 0 Images

Sale Sharks captain, Sam Tuitupou, has targeted a top-four Premiership finish and a good run in Europe, next season. The sport betting pages on Bet365 indicate that Tuitupou’s aims are not entirely in the realm of fantasy.

The 30-year-old joined the Sharks from Munster in April 2011, and was installed as the club's new captain, last pre-season.

Tuitupou made 23 appearances and scored three tries in his debut season, leading Sale to sixth spot, an improvement on two lowly finishes in previous seasons.

Sale are entering a new dawn, with Heineken Cup rugby on the agenda next season in a new home, the Salford City Stadium. The Sharks have been drawn in Pool Six alongside Cardiff Blues, Toulon and Montpellier.

"We want to improve on how we went last year so we're looking at top four and winning a few games in the Heineken Cup," Tuitupou told BBC Radio Manchester.

"We've got a tough pool but they look beatable at home for us so we're looking forward to putting on some good performances."

Tuitupou has had to sit out pre-season training, following surgery on a thumb problem, but insisted he will be fit for the curtain raiser at Sale's new home; a friendly against European Champions, Leinster.

The former New Zealand international says the return of former Sale scrum-half, Bryan Redpath, as director of rugby will see a new brand of rugby adopted by the Sharks.

"He's got a running game and he loves to attack, and that is exactly how we want to play. We've got a lot of young boys out wide and a lot of speed, and we want to score heaps of tries this year," Tuitupou added.

"You saw the last few years the way Gloucester have been playing; they've always been using their running backs, and that is what we're looking to use with all the talent in our backline."
