Harlequins have received some positive news with regards to the injury sustained by key playmaker Nick Evans, when at first glance it looked like the player’s season was over.
The New Zealander suffered a nasty ankle injury during his side’s comprehensive win over Biarritz in the Heineken Cup on Saturday and was forced from the field in the first-half.
Evans is an instrumental figure at the Twickenham Stoop not just with his superb goal-kicking but with his game management too and the sight of him on crutches after the clash with the French outfit will have got Quins supporters very concerned.
However, Harlequins director of rugby Conor O’Shea has eased fears regarding Evans’ ankle and he believes the 32-year-old should be back in the thick of the action sooner than first expected.
He said: "Nick will have his foot in a boot for a little while and we'll see what it's like.
"There's no break but there's a little bit of damage. We need to wait 24-48 hours and get it scanned.
"He won't be available against Connacht next Saturday, that's for sure, but it will be weeks rather than months."
Having made a strong start against Biarritz, Harlequins will be hoping to take that form with them across the Irish Sea when they face Connacht.
Although they will be without Evans, the Aviva Premiership champions will fancy their chances against the RaboDirect Pro12 outfit.
Quins are back to domestic duties on October 28 when they make the trip to the Madejski Stadium to face London Irish, which will be a game made all the more difficult with the potential absence of their Kiwi No.10.
