Perfect Kiwis continue domination 8 views 0 Comments 0 Images

For those remaining four or five people in the world who weren’t totally convinced that this New Zealand team is one of the best in a generation, the All Blacks’ 16th straight Test victory should probably have done the trick.

With the inaugural Rugby Championship title already comprehensively added to the Webb Ellis trophy in the cabinet, the All Blacks completed a perfect 12 months with a comfortable 32-16 win against South Africa.

The result means New Zealand finish the four-team tournament with a perfect record of six wins from six matches, making history in winning the first ever Rugby Championship event, and doing it in such emphatic fashion.

Running in four tries and with 12 points coming from Dan Carter’s ever-reliable boot ensured a relatively easy night in Soweto, racking up 20 points without answer in the second half as the Springboks failed to handle wave after wave of All Blacks attack.

The victory was Richie McCaw’s 100th win in 112 New Zealand appearances, and the captain has been as important as any in the All Blacks domination of the game over the past year. They will soon head north for the autumn internationals, with Betfair England v New Zealand betting markets suggesting their fine run will continue at Twickenham.

South Africa head coach Heyneke Meyer spoke of his admiration of McCaw after watching the 31-year old produce the sort of performances that have made him so highly thought of throughout the game.

“For the South African public he is a guy they sometimes hate, but it's because he's so professional. In South Africa if they hate you, you are a cult figure. It shows the respect because they know he is such a great competitor,” admitted Meyer.

How long McCaw can keep going on for is still unclear. At 31, most players would believe they have a few more years left on the international scene. Most players haven’t laid their bodies on the line as much as McCaw has for his country over the years, however.
