Gloucester head coach, Nigel Davies, says his side will not be taking the Challenge Cup lightly this season, and will be going all out to win the tournament.
After finishing a disappointing ninth in the Premiership last term, Davies was brought to the club in the summer, charged with the task of transforming the Cherry and Whites back into the attacking force that saw them win the Challenge Cup in 2006.
These are currently exciting times at Kingsholm, due to the batch of exciting youngsters that have come through the ranks in recent years, with the likes of Freddie Burns, Jonny May, and Henry Trinder all being tipped for England honours.
Davies became famous for his ability to nurture youngsters and help them fulfil their potential during his time in charge of the Scarlets and, with so much talent at Gloucester, he is already being tipped to lead the team to glory.
The West Country side have made a solid start to the season and moved up to fifth in the table, thanks to Saturday’s 16-10 win over local rivals.
Davies’ men get their European campaign underway against French side Mont-de-Marsan on Thursday, and the former Wales centre says his players will be doing all they can to win the tournament.
"It is great that the win gives us the momentum going into the Amlin Challenge Cup and, while we will not be making wholesale changes, there are some players who deserve their chances," said Davies.
"If we're in it, we're in it to win it - we are in it to win every game - and for the next two weeks our focus is on the Amlin."
