Scotty Donaldson looks at the North vs South Island rugby teams named today for next weekend's match. What do you think of these teams? Does the lack of big names make this match meaningless?
The North vs South teams have been named and many of the players named for this match are nowhere near All Blacks selection. The All Blacks will be out of contention with the All Blacks playing Ireland, but this match loses credibility for me with most of the players in this game nowhere near making the All Blacks and only being made available for selection in the North vs South game because their Super Rugby coaches are resting most of their top players by making them unavailable for the North vs South game. I guess it gives some players a chance to stay match fit, but this game will take on a festival style rather than the traditional trial that it used to be. What do you think of these squads? Who will win? This match will be a good chance for some young players to get some more experience, but it won't be like the North vs South matches used to be when the best players in New Zealand would be involved.
