Super Rugby Round 15 was epic with plenty of tries and some surprise results to keep tipsters on their toes.
Super 15 Rugby saw a round of mainly predictable results, although some of the margins were really surprising. The Bulls, Hurricanes and Stormers all recorded larger than expected victories at home in matches which really split the punters. The Sharks and Crusaders won narrowly away from home (most tipsters picked at least one of these results), while the Waratahs won by more than expected against the Rebels too. The Force probably recorded the most predictable result with a comfortable win over the Lions.
There are six things to take out of Super 15 Rugby Round 15;
1) The Sharks are the real deal in Super Rugby 2014. They are going to be hard to beat with a favourable draw from now on likely to give them home advantage at in the finals. This will make them very tough to beat in 2014.
2) There were really contrasting results in the local derbies. While the Highlanders vs Crusaders match was a nailbiter, the Stormers, Hurricanes and Waratahs posted big wins. Often these local derbies are close, but not this week.
3) Did Vinny Munro make the correct decision to disallow the Highlander's Patrick Osborne's try at Forsyth Barr Stadium. The ball looked to touch the touchline and tryline at the same time. Did that tackle by Israel Dagg save the Crusaders' season? Should the Highlanders have gone for the dropped goal instead of wanting to win it in style with a try in the corner? Was the ball grounded on the tryline at the same time as the touchline?
4) It looks like you can add the Blues to the casualty list after their loss to the Sharks. It is a shame given that they have such impressive players like Ma'a Nonu, Jerome Kaino, Keven Mealamu and Tony Woodcock. Does this mean John Kirwan should fall on his sword?
5) What happened to the Chiefs? Not only was it a slight upset for the Hurricanes to beat the defending champions, but they completely thrashed them.
6) Has the Super Rugby table ever been so tight? Losses at the weekend for the Brumbies and Chiefs has seen them drop from the top of their conferences to outside the Top Six. There is now only one win or four points separating the Crusaders in 3rd place and the Bulls in 9th. The Waratahs are only two points ahead of the Crusaders, while the Sharks lead the way on 44 points, five ahead of the Waratahs.
