Scotty Donaldson looks at 10 players to watch in Super Rugby Round 15.
Super Rugby Round 15 is almost more famous for who isn't playing than who is. Managers of www.testrugby.com
teams should be aware of some usual points scorers who aren't playing
this week. It is important that managers get rid of usual studs like
Steven Luatua, Andries Bekker, Deon Fourie and George Smith. The
withdrawal of these players could not only affect the performance of
their team, but also provide the opportunity for a replacement to
shine. There are plenty of other players out with injuries, so be
careful to check who is named in the Super Rugby Round 15 team lists.

Managers also need to plan ahead in order to avoid the disappointment of
running out of trades. Whilst the Hurricanes have the bye in Round 15,
the Chiefs, Force and Sharks have the Round 16 bye and in Round 17
there will only be four Australian teams playing. Managers should
avoiding buying any Hurricanes, Chiefs, Force or Sharks players if they
don't already own them. The Reds have the bye two weeks in a row in
Rounds 17 and 18, so don't pick them! I usually only pick players that I
will get three games out of, otherwise I consider it a wasted trade.
Here are 10 Players to Watch in Super Rugby Round 15 - www.testrugby.com
1) Kieran Read - Crusaders - Kieran Read was inspirational in his
return for the Crusaders. Watch for him to lead from the front as
captain and play plenty of minutes in a good team.
2) Lappies Labuschagne - Cheetahs - The Cheetahs bargain priced loose
forward made 15 tackles last week. He is a rare talent who can win
lineouts, get go forward with the ball in hand and make plenty of
tackles.
3) Adriaan Strauss - Cheetahs - Strauss is a key man for the Cheetahs
and should get plenty of chances to impress with the ball in hand and
lineouts against the Kings. He scored 335 points last week.
4) Sam Whitelock - Crusaders - The Crusaders have one of the best
lineouts in the competition and Sam Whitelock is in amazing form. It
will be interesting to see how the Crusaders lineout goes against the
quality Chiefs pack. He is expensive, but in my opinion with Luatua and
Bekker out, he is a great option.
5) Jason Woodward - Rebels - Whilst the Rebels won't win too many more
games this season, the vacancy left by James O'Connor and Kurtley Beale
mean that young Wellington fullback Jason Woodward gets plenty of
chances. He is a promising outside back who is a great goal kicker and
has the ability with the ball in hand to score tries. He is also super
cheap!
6) Israel Folau - Waratahs - The Waratahs should beat the Rebels in
Super Rugby Round 15 and fullback Israel Folau will get the opportunity
to show why he is the leading points scorer in Super Rugby 2013 www.testrugby.com
7) Morne Steyn - Bulls - If you want a reliable option at inside back
then you could do worse than Morne Steyn. The Bulls are looking great
at the moment and he will continue to get plenty of shots at goal.
8) Tom Taylor - Crusaders - It seems that Tom Taylor is the Crusaders
starting goal kicker, well he was last week! Taylor is cheaper than a
certain Mr Carter and if he keeps kicking the way he did last week then
he is worth the purchase.
9) Ged Robinson - Rebels - If you want a gutsy hooker, then you could
do worse than Ged Robinson from the Rebels. It seems that Wellington
rugby has let another quality player go to the Rebels. Robinson
averages 261 points and usually gets plenty of minutes.
10) Jayden Hayward - Force - This is a risky pick, but if you have
spare trades in the bank and are looking for the best value midfield
back in the game, then Hayward is your man! Unfortunately the Force
don't release their starting team until late in the week, but Hayward is
a dangerous outside back who kicks goals and this weekend he could be
part of a winning team! Be prepared to sell him straight after the lock
of the round though, because the Force have a bye next week.
Which player are you picking to impress in Super Rugby Round 15? Have your say!
