The Otago Rugby Union is $2.35 million dollars in debt. Join my Facebook group and pledge $10 to the cause. I am hoping to get enough people to bail them out!
By liking the Save Otago Rugby page you are pledging $10 to bailout out Otago Rugby. If we get somewhere in the vicinity of 235,000 likes then we will have enough to pay off the debt of $2.35 million. Many hands make light work. We can then keep Otago in the ITM Cup 2012. Do it for the good of New Zealand, Highlanders and rugby in general. Otago has given New Zealand so many talented coaches and players, just look at the 1998 NPC title winning side in the picture. Players like Taine Randell, Josh Kronfeld, Tony Brown, Jeff Wilson, John Timu, Kees Meeuws, Carl Hayman, Carl Hoeft, Nick Evans, John Leslie, Anton Oliver, Andrew Hore, Jamie Joseph, Stu Forster, Stephen Bachop, Brendan Laney and John Leslie are some of the great names who have played for Otago in the last 20 years. It would be sad if one of New Zealand's main centres doesn't have an ITM Cup rugby side.
Otago is the proud owners of the Forsyth Barr indoor stadium which is the newest in New Zealand. It would be a shame if Otago couldn't make full use of this flash new stadium.
I do admit that there will need to be some changes to the structure of the way the Otago Rugby Union is run, and while I don't even support Otago, I still want to see one of New Zealand's traditional rugby teams play in the ITM Cup 2012.
The Highlanders are a separate entity from the Otago Rugby Union and so this hopefully will not affect them despite some of the same players being involved with both teams.
