Sometimes an outstanding performance by a player is rewarded with a mediocre stats score..... how can this be fixed?
Dan Lydiate from Wales has been named "Player Of The Tournament" for the 2012 six nations. He received 25% of the more than 30,000 votes cast. Going through the test rugby stats, his game average puts him about twelfth highest out of just the loose forwards, he probably doesn't make it into the top 40 of overall player scores. Week in and week out on the discussion pages someone is miffed about a clear man-of -the -match performance getting a below par "test rugby" score. And we get the usual standard reply of ...man of the match doesn't always correlate to test rugby points. Why not?
If a player's contribution on the field has been deemed to be outstanding, better than all the others, then why are they not scoring points on your stats. Rather than palming it off and saying it's just not what happens sometimes, let us ask "why not?" and have a review of the scoring system from the start point of that question. When it all boils down to the bare bones, a fantasy competition where the best players don't get the best points, doesn't make any sense. So what do other fans of Test Rugby think. What stats categories are missing, what stats scores are too high or too low, what could be done to bring the scoring more into line with the reality of the game?
