The ABs have thrashed the Wallabies. What did you make of this match?
The All Blacks hell-bent on revenge following their sub-par draw in Sydney last week have put the Wallabies to the sword with an emphatic 51-20 win at the fortress of Eden Park in The Rugby Championship Round 2.
Maybe the draw last week against the Wallabies in Sydney was just the tonic for the All Blacks who thrived under improved conditions to steamroll the Wallabies. Their forwards paved the way for the victory with their lineout drive and scrummaging resulting in the majority of their six tries.
The All Blacks rumbled over for a penalty try, while McCaw twice and Read went over for tries from close range.
The All Blacks scored a couple of other long range efforts to Julian Savea and Steven Luatua.
It is an old adage, but the cliche that rugby is won upfront is true with the All Blacks tight five dominant allowing players like Aaron Cruden to dictate play and this nulified anything that either the referee or the Wallabies could throw at them.
To their credit, the Wallabies didn't lie down and fought back at the end with some tries to Michael Hooper and Israel Folau, while Folau and Kurtley Beale looked dangerous at times as the main threats to the All Blacks defensive line.
Some other interesting points to note is that Richie McCaw got a yellow card for only the second time in his long career in a test match, while Aaron Smith took the conversion to give the All Blacks their highest score against the Wallabies of 51 points. The All Blacks also got the opportunity to blood some young players with the game over as a contest early in the second half.
Note that all of the doomsday merchants after the All Blacks performance last week will be very quiet after this performance which gives the All Blacks the Bledisloe Cup and the All Blacks one hand on the Rugby Championship trophy in my opinion. The bonus point and points differential from this match will make it difficult for anyone to beat the All Blacks now assuming they win their remaining home games and get at least one more away win.
What are your thoughts on the All Blacks 51 -20 Wallabies win in the Rugby Championship Round 2?
