Can New Coaches Unleash the Force? 12 views 0 Comments 0 Images
28 October 2012 by Englandfan See all

Western Force have hailed the appointment of what the club has described as “a world-class panel of preeminent experts” on its coaching staff for the 2013 season.

Heading the panel is head coach, Michael Foley, who has left the Waratahs to take up the position with the Perth outfit.

Former Bath head coach, Steve Meehan, who tasted success at the English club in the European Challenge Cup, and former Queensland tactical guru, Phillip Fowler, joins him.

Completing the quartet is Nick Stiles, who will serve as forwards coach, and hopes are already high that the team can mount a sustained challenge for success in the championship rugby, and avoid a repeat of last year’s disastrous 14th-placed finish.

Head coach, Foley, is confident that the club can not only shake its tag as underachievers, but also challenge the big boys in the competition, including the dominant New Zealand sides.

“Relaunching this side is more than just a new playing roster, it’s about a new approach to Western Force rugby,” said Foley.

“We didn’t want to restrict ourselves in terms of who we were approaching and targeting, and have intentionally identified experts with a proven record in getting results.

“We’ve engaged some of the best in the business to join us for 2013. We’ve drawn a line in the sand for this season and, given we’ll run out a new-look side, it was essential that we assembled a coaching staff that would not only provide insight into the game but will assist to develop our players and the group as a whole.”

In their eight years of existence, the Force have never managed a finish higher than 7th, much to the chagrin of those who watch live rugby online, but, with a new-look coaching staff in place, and the tools required to fuel their ambitions, a best ever Super Rugby finish could well be on the cards in 2013.
