All Blacks Savage the Irish
Ireland captain, Brian O’Driscoll, admitted his side were no match for world champions, New Zealand, after the tourists suffered a comprehensive 60-0 defeat to the All Blacks in Hamilton.
The result ensured New Zealand completed a 3-0 series whitewash; although, this victory was a much easier affair for the hosts than the other two matches had been.
The Irish had arrived in Hamilton with only pride to play for, but came out of the match without much of that attached to their performance. The surprise result was at odds with the rugby previews on Bet365.
The All Blacks raced to a 21-0 lead after only 20 minutes, before going on to dominate every aspect of the game, and running out as easy winners against a shocked Ireland side.
O’Driscoll admitted his side had not been at the races and deserved everything they took from a rampant New Zealand side. The experienced centre made it clear that the dismal start to the game from the Irish had ensured they would be chasing their opponents for the rest of the match.
"We started terribly and they came at us. We just made too many errors," said O'Driscoll. "We had a lot of tackles to make, and that scoreline tells its own story. They were clinical at the breakdown and we were terrible."
"We knew that we had to start well and we didn't, and that's what the All Blacks do - when they get a 15 or 20-point lead; they just play their own game, and you're running after them for 80 minutes.”
While Ireland were way below par, the way in which the All Blacks controlled the game proved beyond doubt that they are way out in front of the rest of the world.
Ireland may not be South Africa; however, they certainly are not a weak side, and this result only goes to show just how good this New Zealand team actually is. The Kiwis’ dominance will no doubt influence the live in-play betting markets, heading into July.
