Scotty Donaldson previews the Lions vs Rebels match and the starting teams. Do the Rebels have any chance of winning?
The British and Irish Lions play the Melbourne Rebels on Tuesday night
in their final non-test match of their Australian tour. The Lions will
be pleased after winning the first test against the Wallabies on
Saturday, but most of the team named to face the Rebels will still be
smarting from the defeat to the Brumbies a week ago.
This Lions side does look stronger than the one which lost to the
Brumbies and so don't expect a repeat performance. For starters, they
have far more gamebreakers in their backline, with Owen Farrell
(pictured above), Manu Tuilagi and Sean Maitland compulsory purchases
for managers.
Some other players worth buying for www.testrugby.com purposes are captain for the day Geoff Parling, Richard Hibbard and two of the loose forwards.
Be careful when making your trades that you don't run out of money or
get confused by which Lions in your team will be playing or not. It is
probably easier to do it in one go rather than getting distracted.
There are also some Melbourne Rebels players that will be useful
acquisitions like hooker Ged Robinson, lock Hugh Pyle and fullback Jason
Woodward. Woodward is a dangerous runner and will probably kick
goals. It will be interesting to see how Luke Burgess goes at
halfback. This Melbourne Rebels team looks alright on paper with most
players having played Super Rugby, but will be missing their sprinkling
of quality players through injury or Wallabies selection.
The British and Irish Lions must be starting to get tired now given the
length of this tour, but I think they will be too strong for the
Rebels. The Rebels are probably not as strong as the Brumbies team that
won last week, while the Lions team looks stronger. There are some
bench players from the test match on Saturday who will probably be
subbed in the second half so these players may not be the best value.
Do the Rebels have any chance of beating the British and Irish Lions?
