The Brumbies beat the British and Irish Lions 14-12, did you pick that?
The ACT Brumbies have beaten the British and Irish Lions 14-12 in a physical encounter in Canberra, did you pick that? This was the first Australian state side to beat the British and Irish Lions in 42 years. This was the biggest potential banana skin for the tourists given that the Brumbies are the top Australian team in Super Rugby and they still managed to field a team with Super Rugby experience. It seems that coach Jake White has worked wonders with this team and has also developed some depth.
This game typified the difference between international Northern Hemisphere rugby and Super Rugby with plenty of up the guts, kicking for territory and very little expansive play.
The British and Irish Lions don't have the depth that many thought they did and they were lacking the combinations required. They only really got back into the game once some of their likely test players came off the bench to salvage some pride for the tourists, but the ship had sailed.
The Brumbies scored the only try through their centre Tevita Kuridrani, and although they were missing some players who were with the Wallabies, the Brumbies still had a near full strength backline, but their young forward pack held their own against the more experienced British and Irish Lions.
The Australian commentators had the audacity to call the touring British and Irish Lions team arrogant. That is rich!
Did you pick the Brumbies to beat the British and Irish Lions? Who did you want to win?
