I've seen a lot of sport from a lot of different countries, but kiwi AB supporters are embarrassing.
There is no doubt that New Zealand can produce top notch rugby players. But Kiwi supporters in the stands are embarrasing. We boo in the stand, yell "cummon ref" and ooooh and ahhhhh but mostly we just sit and watch... where is the passion?
There is no coordinated effort like you see in almost any other sport for any other nation. Where is New Zealand's "Swing Low Sweet Chariot?" I want to see some passion and real support from the stands and New Zealanders need a true crowd identity to go with their premiere sports team.
Now there is an answer and currently it's a little misguided but the crew that put the flash mob haka in Auckland may just have an answer. But instead of the All Blacks doing the Haka at the start of the game it should be the whole damned crowd. I dare any team in the world to stand up to a haka of 30-40,000+ blood thirsty kiwis at the start of a game and try and keep their nerve. Or better still a 5 meter scrum about to be packed down and the crowd going into Kamate.
Organizers should have been enlisting University students and teaching them the NZ haka's months ago to practice at our empty Super Rugby stadia. Or start a supporters club that practices at the stadiums on Saturday afternoons like the Japanese did for the soccer world cup in 2002. This is a huge part of New Zealand culture and it's not reserved for the AB's, schools have annual matches where hundreds of students perform haka's all through the match. Cummon New Zealand supporters REALLY GET BEHIND YOUR TEAM AND LEARN THE HAKAS!
