The All Blacks won by 24-9 over a gutsy France, but I think the score should have been closer. What did you make of the game?
The All Blacks beat France 24-9 in slippery conditions in New Plymouth. Despite the comfortable winning margin in the end, France played with plenty of spirit and determination. The late try to Beauden Barrett off the bench which was a cracker, probably gave the All Blacks a flattering winning margin.
I wonder if the Adidas balls affected the goal kicking with Dan Carter and another French goal kicking halfback Doussain not striking the ball consistently when shooting for goal.
France literally slipped through the All Blacks defence with ease especially in the first half which was alarming. While looking far more hungry and dangerous in attack with the exception of All Blacks wingers Rene Ranger and Ben Smith who were both electric tonight. The mojo was missing a bit tonight from the All Blacks.
Some of the returning All Blacks looked rusty with Dan Carter not his usual impressive self. The number of penalties given away by the All Blacks at the scrum was disappointing, with Wyatt Crockett again on the receiving end tonight. It is hard to know if this guy has much of a future in the All Blacks jersey, he is often penalised.
Tawera Kerr-Barlow made an appearance off the bench and to be honest, he kept going blindside far too often when it was on to spread the ball wide. I think TJ Perenara is a better halfback.
The game was in the balance too long leaving the Blues duet of Charles Piutau and Steven Luatua very little time for a cameo along with Matt Todd. Beauden Barrett got even less time on the field but scored his second try of the series late in the game and boy was it a beauty.
Otherwise this game was dull with the defence of French skipper Thierry Dusautoir with 16 tackles, keeping the All Blacks quiet for most of the match.
There is plenty to work on for the All Blacks heading towards the Rugby Championship. It will be interesting to see who starts the first game of the Rugby Championship, given that the likes of Aaron Smith and Aaron Cruden were better last week against France than their replacements this week. Is Aaron Cruden now better than Dan Carter? We didn't really see enough of the new players to be able to draw many conclusions.
What did you think of the All Blacks 24-9 win over France? I was a bit disappointed and thought the result flattered the home team, but we need to get used to winning ugly, especially with night test matches at home in June.
