The first test between the Wallabies and Lions is over, who are you picking to win the series?
A common sight - Christian Lealiifano was the first but not the last Wallabies player injured in the match.
The British and Irish Lions have beaten the Wallabies 23-21 after Wallabies fullback Kurtley Beale slipped and missed a long range penalty which would have stolen the game, what a sad way to end a great game. The groundsman has plenty to answer for!
This match had everything, with the ebb and flow causing the lead to change several times. Christian Lealiifano lasted less than a minute in his test debut, while Berrick Barnes didn't last much longer. The Wallabies were left with a makeshift side but managed to score two great tries through the electric Israel Folau who played like a man possessed. It will be interesting to see him against Julian Savea later this season. The Wallabies missed five kicks at goals worth 14 points, with James O'Connor and Kurtley Beale missing their share. The Wallabies scrum was ironically strong towards the end of the game which was crazy given how they struggled early on. James O'Connor was disappointing, while Kurtley Beale did everything required from the bench apart from kicking the winning goal. The Wallabies backline look short of numbers looking towards the second test.
The British and Irish Lions started and finished sluggishly, but George North and Alex Cuthbert scored great individual tries and Leigh Halfpenny kicked some great goals. Otherwise the Lions didn't threaten too much.
This test match was epic, the Wallabies started and finished the stronger team, but will rue the missed attempts at goal. It will be interesting to see which players are available for the second test match as this series has just come alive! This British and Irish Lions vs Wallabies series will be the battle of the fittest!
What did you think of the British and Irish Lions vs Wallabies? Who will win this series?
I hope the Wallabies win the second test match and we are able to watch an amazing decider in the third test.
