The British and Irish Lions play the Wallabies in the first test this weekend, who are you picking to win?
The British and Irish Lions have their best chance to beat the Qantas
Australia Wallabies in the first test of the series this weekend. It
will be interesting to see what the midweek loss to the Brumbies has
done to their confidence, but you get the feeling that the Lions need to
win this first test, to set up the series nicely. I want the series to
come down to a deciding third test.
I am predicting and in many ways hoping for a Lions win in the first
test. The Lions have been playing two matches a week and so have had
plenty of opportunities to gel as a team. The Wallabies have been in
camp, but it just isn't the same as match practice.
Some people have lost confidence in the British and Irish Lions after
they lost to the ACT Brumbies, but that isn't fair. That was the Lions B
team in many ways and as the subs, many of whom are on the bench for
the first test showed, there is a difference between the top Lions
players and the rest.
It will be interesting to see who starts kicking goals for the Wallabies
with Berrick Barnes my pick as the most experienced player. It is
funny having him starting at fullback, but he will probably interchange
with James O'Connor and even Christian Lealiifano. I have included all
three in my www.testrugby.com team.
The problem for managers of www.testrugby.com
teams is getting a valid team under the salary cap, is it possible to
have a completely starting team? The problem with this match is that
all the players have such a high value. I have decided to sacrifice a
lock by having Waratahs player Will Skelton in my team. This allows me
to afford all the players I want, with the exception of the front row
where I have gone for reserve prop and prolific www.testrugby.com points scorer Mako Vunipola.
You simply have to go for a few players you want and then just try to find other starting players.
Here is my team as a guide. You have to think outside the square!
While it can be risky picking bench players, these days most reserves
make it onto the field! It is also a bit of a lottery as to who plays
the full eighty minutes these days too!
Who are you picking to win between the British and Irish Lions and the Wallabies?
For SuperBru tipsters I would suggest the British and Irish Lions will
start this game as favourites. I am picking them to win by seven
points.
Last time they were in Australia the Lions won the first test and they
also won the last test match they played in 2009 vs South Africa.
As a New Zealander, I want the British and Irish Lions to win. Who do you want to win?
Sean Maitland has it good. He can't make the All Blacks, so he goes to
Europe and makes the British and Irish Lions test squad and will play in
one of the greatest test series possible.
Who are you picking to win? The Lions or Wallabies?
