Victor Matfield has been named in the Springboks squad to tour Australasia, can he save the Springboks?

Can Springboks legend Victor Matfield save the Springboks in 2014?  

The Springboks have recorded two scratchy wins over the Pumas while their forwards were dominated by the Argentinian forward pack, but can Victor Matfield's experience help to save the Springboks?

At 37,  Matfield is considered to be too hold to really stamp his mark on the game of rugby, but given the way that he helped the Bulls to improve in Super Rugby 2014, can he do the same to the Springboks?

Remember that Brad Thorn is still playing at the age of 40, so anything is possible!

Can Victor Matfield save the Springboks or will it take more than Matfield to improve the disjointed Springboks who could be hindered by their overseas selection policy rather than helped?

Too much dead weight. Captain De Villiers has seen better days, Ruan Pienaar is always on holiday and should carry around a cocktail drink so that he can take a sip before attending to the ball at a ruck. Jannie du Plessis is either in poor form or overplayed, or both. There is little depth at flyhalf and lock. Definitely a step back from last year.

Matfield was the best scoring South African lock during the Super Rugby series - he's a genuine force! Don't know about the rest of the squad tho.
