Rugby World Cup 2011 - Ten Tips For Managers
The Rugby World Cup 2011 starts in just over a week and it means a new competition for testrugby managers to sink their teeth into. With these tournament competitions there are plenty of tricks and things to watch out for and here are some tips to help you avoid complete embarrassment.
Ten Tips For Rugby World Cup 2011 Testrugby Managers
1) Make sure you don't miss the deadlines during the tournament so that your team is valid and has players that are taking the field. You get 20 trades to start with and 20 trades for Round 4. There are weekly deadlines to watch out for. If you run out of trades or have an invalid team you can buy more trades or insurance which could save your bacon!
2) Spend up large in specific positions. Sometimes it is worth spending up large in high scoring positions. Goal kickers are always valuable especially if they are likely to score plenty of points, especially if they are in a unique position like centre or in the forwards. Try scoring outside backs and loose forwards can also be worth splashing out for with each try worth 100 points. Locks tends to be the lowest scoring position so it could be worth buying some bargain players from teams that are not well known as they could be undervalued in this match especially in teams with strong set pieces.
3) Purchase players who will play full matches. Some of the top teams are likely to rest and rotate players against the weaker sides. With the current All Blacks loose forward crisis I would definitely purchase Victor Vito, Richie McCaw or Jerome Kaino. Sometimes it is better to purchase some players who you can leave in your team throughout the entire Round Robin stage because they continually get game time. Choose wisely because you may not have enough trades to get rid of them.
4) Check the draw. Because of the way the draw is made, some teams have a bye in the game of www.testrugby.com Scotland are the biggest name team to have a bye in one round. These are usually the minnows but could cost you some bargain priced players. Some teams will be playing two matches inside a particular round, but only one of these matches will count, so double check this. There is also the possiblity that some of the middle of the road teams have big opportunities to score some large wins during Pool Play.
5) Pick players from good teams. While there will be some bargains to be found among the minnows, it pays to have most players from the top teams. Some of the top teams will post cricket scores against the minnows. The only problem is the potential for the big teams to have enough depth to rest and rotate players for the easy matches. Try and select players who are in squads where there isn't much depth in a specific position. Someone like Richie McCaw doesn't have much obvious backup and so will play most matches for the All Blacks. It also pays to have players from teams who will make the Quarter Finals, simply to stop you having to trade players at the knockout stages.
6) With values of players moving how the market dictates, it is important to buy and sell early to make sure your squad doesn't lose too much value. Wait for teams to be named first though to ensure that specific players are actually playing. This makes it easier later in the tournament when you are trying to afford the top players in the finals.
7) Undervalued players - there will be some bargains who flourish at the Rugby World Cup. Get onto them early and enjoy the ride. With so many available players it is important to do your research.
8) Styles - Different players and teams have different styles which may or may not suit the scoring of www.testrugby.com Some forwards just love running with the ball and are more likely to score tries than others. Try scoring forwards can be brilliant value.
9) Out of position players - with so many players in the tournament it is easy for some to be listed in different positions to where they take the field. For example players who play in the loose forwards are listed at lock in the game. It is something for managers to watch out for, but will probably be more likely for some of the minnows than the top teams.
10) Have fun! Rugby World Cup 2011 will be brilliant and playing www.testrugby.com is a great way of adding a bit of spice to it.
Who is going to win the Rugby World Cup 2011 and which players do you think will be the best buys for managers?
Have your say!
